This is some super indie artsy music I heard in Australia to fit with this post, but if you want something a little less indie, check out this little guy, which is wildly popular outside the US and has a video that makes me laugh.
Still working on my Australia post, but while I was there I was going to a lot of contemporary art museums. Turns out I have a thing for contemporary art. I had no idea.
Plus, because of my long time there and having previously been there, I started noticing more details in my surroundings. What I found was an Australia with a really strong underground highly-contemporary art scene. In the alleys, under rafters, in strange underground walkways, you’ll find all sorts of amazing art in Australia, which isn’t what you normally think of when you think of the land down under. I really liked it, but maybe it’s not for everyone.
Besides the underground art, there’s also a lot of state sponsored art all over the place that is also really well done and super contemporary.
Some of the quirkiness I found down there also fit into this uniquely Australian modern art. Check it out. This is a view of Australia I think you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else.
I have tons and tons of pics like this, but this is just a small sample of some of the better stuff.
Melbourne:
Never figured that out.
Made out of bottles.
Sydney:
A warning sign for this:
Pretty cool.
Brisbane:
Cairns:
This may actually be one of my favorite pieces of artwork ever. So simple, but there’s so much going on in your head when you look at it.
Darwin:
This bike is so hacked together and stylish, I love it (and I want one).
Perth:
Those guys literally couldn’t be seen unless you went down a strange walkway that was off by itself.
Random Spots:
Australia post coming soon.
